What is the best way to burn my candle?Visit our Candle Care & Instructions section! Those tips will make sure you're getting the longest, safest, and best burn from your candles. The amount of scent you will get from your candle highly depends on whether or not the candle is being cared for properly, such as trimming the wooden wick to 1/8" between each burn and never burning the candle for more than 4 hours. Untrimmed wicks can greatly damage the scent throw of a candle (not to mention create higher than normal flames), and if you burn your candle too long you risk going nose blind to the scent and burning through the fragrance oil too fast. In addition, the size of the candle will greatly impact the space it can fill up with scent! A small, 6 oz. candle with one wick will be great for a bathroom, small bedroom or office. A larger candle, such as our 13 oz. candles with 2 or 3 wicks will be better for a living room, large bedroom or similar. If you're burning a 6oz. candle in a large room, you'll have a harder time smelling it!

But your candles have herbs and florals in them! Are they safe?We take the utmost care when making each and every one of our candles and they have all been tested thoroughly. Any herbs and florals are placed a safe distance from the wicks of the candles - this is one of the reasons we like using very wide vessels for our candles, so that we have plenty of room to decorate away from the flame! If you are uncomfortable with burning one of our candles with herbs or florals, you can easily remove them from the wax before burning. Herbs and florals are only ever present on the very top of the candle, not throughout the wax, so that you can easily remove them should you choose. Sometimes, especially during warmer weather, items on the wax can become loose and move around during shipment - if you ever notice any flammable item too close to the wick/flame, make sure you remove it before burning! You should also never leave ANY candle unattended while burning, and make sure to burn it away from other flammable objects such as curtains, books, pillows, etc.

What do I do with the crystals in the candles? We recommend removing large crystals from your candles before burning. Sometimes, the heavier, larger crystals can sink into the wax when burning and cause the wax to rise, drowning the wick and snuffing the candle out. Should this ever happen to your candle, remove the crystal and take a paper towel and absorb some of the wax around the wick until it is visible enough to burn again. Small crystals and toppings shouldn't have an affect on the burn of your candle. Other than that... Keep them! Crystals are known to have great metaphysical properties, promoting the flow of good energy and helping to rid the mind of negative energy. Each crystal has its own unique properties and energies and we keep these in mind when decorating our candles and other products. If you ever have a question about the type of crystals present in your product and what they're good for, feel free to reach out to us!

Why does my room spray look cloudy or oily? This is completely normal and is because we do not use toxic emulsifiers in our room sprays! Make sure to shake your bottle before spraying to get the best scent throw, but rest assured the cloudy or oily appearance of your room sprays will not affect its effectiveness. Emulsifiers are used in many self care and cosmetic products to help essential oils & fragrance oils blend with water (since oil and water do not naturally mix). Some of the most popular emulsifiers are Polysorbate-20 and Polysorbate-80 (also known as Tween 80 and Polyoxyethylene). While the use of these emulsifiers does help to create beautiful, crystal clear room sprays, unfortunately they contain harmful toxins such as Ethylene Oxide and 1,4-Dioxane, and have been associated with a number of adverse events. We do use natural, non-toxic emulsifiers such as Organic Gluten-Free Grain Alcohol and Himalayan Sea Salt to help minimize the separation of our room spray base and fragrance oil or cloudy appearances, but it is entirely normal to still have some!

What is the best way to use a body oil?Our body oils are perfect for aromatherapy, intention and ritual use. We recommened rolling a very small amount on your pulse points (neck, temples, wrists) and breathing deep while focusing on your intentions. You can even use it to anoint objects by rolling a small amount on the item. Please be advised that many essential oils are naturally toxic to pets such as cats and dogs whether applied to the skin, ingested or inhaled. Never use your essential oils on a pet. Keep your pets away from any products containing essential oils, including body oils and diffusers.
-
What are your body oils made of?Full ingredients for each body oil are listed on its product page, but all of our body oils are made with certified organic Jojoba oil - an oil that is moisturizing, contains natural forms of Vitamin E, is noncomedogenic (it's less likely to build up on your skin and clog your pores!) and hypoallergenic! Our oils also contain a mixture of natural essential oils and non-toxic, pthalate free fragrance oils.

How do I use a wax melt?Wax melts must be used with a proper wax warmer. These can be purchased easily online or often at any store that sells wax melts and candles. Take your wax melt and place one or more in your warmer or melter. Then light your tea light or turn on your wax warmer (if it is electric) and enjoy the scent! When finished, turn off or remove the heat source and the remaining wax will solidify until you are ready to use it again.

How long do your candles burn? All candles vary depending on size. For details, see individual items. As long as you keep the wick properly trimmed and never burn them for more than 4 hours at a time, all candles should last as long as is stated in their individual description.
-
Why should I trim the wick and burn your candles for only 4 hours at a time? These are both very common instructions and good practices for any candle and are meant to prolong a candle's burn time. The longer a wick is, the larger the flame it creates, and this can not only result in unsafe conditions, but will melt the wax faster and can burn the fragrance oil too quickly, resulting in less scent. Burning your candle for 4 hours at a time ensures that the wax melts all the way to the edge of the container. This will help avoid "tunneling", or burning a hole down the center of the candle while leaving a ring of un-melted, wasted wax along the inside of the container.
-
How quickly will my order ship? You can expect your order to ship within 3-5 business days of purchase. Once shipped, shipment times will vary depending on location and shipping method chosen at checkout.

What makes coconut wax different? Many candles you'll find in large stores are made with paraffin wax or paraffin wax blends. Paraffin wax is derived from petroleum, coal or oil shale and it is NOT sustainable or environmentally friendly. Beeswax is not vegan friendly, and soy wax unfortunately struggles to give off much scent while burning and is not sustainable or as eco-friendly as people think due to large farms, mass production and deforestation. Coconut wax is vegan, burns cleaner and slower than both paraffin and soy wax, is made from sustainable, renewable crops and has a better scent throw than soy!
-
What are phthalates and why should I care?Phthalates (Tha-lates) are a group of chemical plasticizers commonly used in cosmectics, bath and body products, cleaning products, plastic containers, candles, and more. They are usually used to increase the flexibility of plastics as well as to strengthen the scent of fragrances. As candles burn, phthalates are released into the air where they may be inhaled and absorbed through the skin. Once they enter the bloodstream, they can aggravate allergy and asthma sypmtoms and have been found to alter hormone levels and cause headaches. All Light by Liv candles are completely phthalate and headache free!
